What's that buzzin around? Vintage Fashion Finds Friday!

I love clothes, but especially vintage finds and often wonder who wore them, what stories they could tell, blah, blah......and what new stories they will have from their new owner, and in my case, me!

 Floral brooch with bumble bee from 1940's 1950's era.

 Saw this brooch yesterday evening, and it made me laugh as it is so over the top, so I bought it!  It is a vintage brooch (from the 1940's or 1950's) of a flower with a bumble bee on it.....The bee is happy, I am happy, that's a good start to a Friday!

 So what have I teamed this vintage find with you may well ask!!! Well, I was in a hurry this morning (so threw it on with this little assortment of other vintage accessories -

Here is the brooch, attatched to the scarf which is worn across my middle at around empire line with a 1960's coat which I am wearing with black Capri pants and ballet shoes!

Seeing I am going vintage, I love the fact that in old photos, often heads were cut off in them, so as I didn't have a lot of time to do anything with my hair today, that's rather handy I think!!!  So here I am.

Blackness Castle overlooking the Firth of Forth

This is a place we had never heard of before until the lovely Bill took us there on Sunday!

It is just outside Edinburgh and it turns out has been the setting for many films and dramas including Doomsday, Macbeth, Hamlet (the one with Mel Gibson) - literally tonnes of films and has seen Oliver Reed, Roddy McDowell, blah, blah, blah......

Here is the lovely, lovely Harry.  He is a man who knows all about this Castle, and he was just delightful.  He told us all about the happenings, which resulted in one of the other ladies who happened to be here at the same time joining in the conversation to tell us how Melly boy liked to frequent the tea shop that was in the local Post Office every day when he was filming there!

It is an odd castle, shaped like a ship and actually was used as a refuelling station during the second world war as it sits on the Firth of Forth.

The land facing sides of the castle seemed to have faces built into it.....

Even the rocks had faces like ghosts

Sunday had been a lovely day, still and calm.

Straight out of the camera!

Sometimes a photograph is so lovely out of the camera, that you are not sure whether to leave it just that way!  What I do know was that when I saw this reflection I just couldn't believe how beautiful the soft blue clouds were with slight pinkish tinges against the orange, yellow and lime colours of the trees.

Culloden

Anders and I took Dexter to visit it last month but forgot to put it on the blog!

For those of you who don't know Culloden is where Bonny Prince Charlie was defeated by the English in 1746. It is also the last battle to ever take place on British soil.

Anyway, Culloden is the site that this battle took place as I had been there before as a child so my memories were of visiting it on a wet and grey day, (much like today) and the field on which the battle took place was eerie and sad.

Whilst Dexter excitedly told me that it was horrible and what happened there was so awful that he thought he might have nightmares, his photographs tell a tale of both sadness and fun, which I am glad at as I don't want him having nightmares!

Because Culloden is an open field, they allow you to take dogs. Marvin & Carly therefore got to go there too and they made the trip more joyful! Yes it might sound surprising but in fact they actually have poo bins there for you to dispose of their business.

They of course have signs saying "please be respectful", (which of course they were) because this is regarded as a war grave. As the site it is so near to where these clans were from, we believe that their clans would come to remove their bodies, so whilst it is a war grave, it might in fact be a war site, albeit a very bloody one, the description of which Dexter found horrifying.

Interestingly, we also all went to see Fort George (literally almost next door to Culloden) after this which was built by the English after Culloden to ensure that there was never another uprising again from the Scots, and there too, we got to take Marvin & Carly.
