Camille Seaman

Last week when I was at Review Santa Fe, I met some amazing artist/photographers, one of these was Camille Seaman.  She takes stunning photographs in a way that really makes you stop and contemplate (not like these i-phone images I took just before I left for Santa Fe, her ones are the real deal).  She is a TED 2011 Fellow and you can see work and read more about her at her website:  Here is a small piece of text about her which I cut and paste from her website to give you a feel:

Camille was born in 1969 to a Native American (Shinnecock tribe) father and African American mother. She graduated in 1992 from the State University of New York at Purchase, where she studied photography with Jan Groover and has since taken master workshops with Steve McCurry, Sebastiao Salgado, and Paul Fusco. Her photographs have been published in National Geographic Magazine, Italian Geo, The New York Times Sunday magazine, Newsweek, Outside, Zeit Wissen, Men's Journal, Camera Arts, Issues, PDN, and American Photo among many others, She frequently leads photographic and self-publishing workshops. Her photographs have received many awards including: a National Geographic Award, 2006; and the Critical Mass Top Monograph Award, 2007. In 2008 she was honored with a one-person exhibition, “The Last Iceberg” at the National Academy of Sciences, Washington DC. Camille Seaman lives in Emeryville, California, and takes photographs all over the world using digital and film cameras in multiple formats. She works in a documentary/fine art tradition and since 2003 has concentrated on the fragile environment of the Polar Regions.
So even though I returned from the Review a week ago today, I am still on Cloud 9 as guess what? Camille is coming to Scotland to do a talk!  She is going to St Andrews University, and so I am really looking forward to it as I am going to meet up with her there and get to spend some more time in her company, she is just so lovely, humble, spiritual and very very wise.
The sights she has seen and shares are so captivating and I say again, I am so excited I am going to see her here in Scotland at the end of this week, yep, the end of this week! How fantastic is that, yay!

It's a communal global world out there!

Love that first image- a stunner! Also am quite fond of the lighthouse shot. Love them all-very deep, heavy blacks and blues-so moody and beautiful. Glad to see you back in Phonography! ;)
