I originally posted this piece because I was just so taken with the surreal image of slot machines on a beach - strange yes, appealing, yes, intriguing, yes, kitsch, yes, funny, absolutely, thought provoking initially not but the more the image of them stayed with me the more they did make me muse over them.....
Apart from the bright lights which flash and encourage you to see numbers, iconic images and well temptation to take a punt, the fact they are on a beach with the lullaby sound of the sea waves gently coming in and out as if calling you to wash away any inhibitions and go for your dreams.....
.... nestled in the warm yet dry sand, making you think that you cannot possibly sink any further and who knows, your treasure island booty might actually come to fruition if you just give it a go!
Or as this shot reminds me of the Easter Island heads, it you might just be transported to some other land, somewhere lost in wonder at how and why these pillars of awe were placed there .....
In some shots they almost look like they are enticing you with their songs of excitement like some siren who has taken host on land.....
perhaps you too can be seduced and fall in love with their lure of a dream ......
... after all surely the machine is not invincible, daring you to take a shot at your seaside dream....The sad thing is, for those who are addicted to gambling then this dream is nothing but a misery, but the good thing is, these machines are not for playing, they are an art installation and certainly made me think long after I first read about them, then saw them, photographed them and slept on their image and thought, wouldn't it have been surreal if this bottle had also been washed up on the shore too...... a saviour for all sinners...... art has a way of being deep eh or just fun.....
